Construction on the new I-74 bridge has been getting all the press, but the roadway itself will undergo dramatic changes as part of the bridge construction.

You may have noticed work crews installing new light poles along I-74 in Moline. According to the Quad City Times, the new poles are part of the plan to widen I-74 to three lanes from the new bridge down to just past Avenue of the Cities.

Since the new bridge will have more lanes, the roadway needs to be as well.

As we've been telling you during our traffic reports, 5th Avenue between I-74 and 21st Street will also close for good beginning Monday as part of the project.

It will take two years to complete the I-74 widening, but things will get underway this summer, so start working on your zipper merge skills.
