Normally I don't recommend walking while drinking wine (especially if it's red) but in this case, it's a good idea.

Artists of Bucktown Center for the Arts will host a Wine Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 225 E. 2nd St., Davenport.

If you go you can buy a hand-painted wine glass for $20, which entitles you to samples of unique wines and snacks. The evening also includes strolling carolers from the Black Hawk College Community Chorale.

A drawing will give visitors a chance to win a Quad-Cities shop-local swag basket featuring items ranging from a hotel stay to a margarita kit.

According to a QCOnline.com story, a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of wine glasses during the Wine Walk will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Greater Mississippi Valley chapter. This affiliate of the nation’s largest grassroots mental-health organization provides free education and support programs to individuals and families living with a mental health condition.

Local comedians Jessica Gordon and Joshua Kahn from Open Source Improv have supported a “Shop for NAMI” social media campaign that will culminate with the Wine Walk. The campaign features tongue in cheek videos on solving the predictable crises of finding the perfect holiday gift.

Participating galleries and artists at Bucktown have donated a percentage of their sales since Nov. 24 to NAMI.
