There's a group who's been hard at work preserving a little school in Bettendorf. Their hard work is being recognized in a big way.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is featuring the school's story in the May edition of its magazine, Preservation. The privately funded nonprofit organization is based in Washington, D.C. whose mission is to protect significant places by taking direct action and inspiring broad public support. Their website indicates a readership over 300,000.

According to a QC Times article, he school was built in 1873, closed in 1957 and is being restored to how it looked in 1923 to be used as a museum/interpretive center.

I was fascinated by this school and remember shooting video of it and taking still photos of the school back in the mid-1980's. It's always been part of my life.

The group continues to make improvements and raise funds for the project. According to their Facebook page, the group will host a trivia night fundraiser this Saturday at The Golden Leaf Banquet & Convention Center, 2902 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Reservations can be made by calling 563-343-2283 or emailing fgs1873@gmail.com
