You can feed the hungry, grow community gardens, plant trees and build water wells with just One Step. That's the program re-launched by local Hy-Vee stores. If you buy Hy-Vee's private branded "One Step"a portion of the proceeds funds charitable donations throughout the world.

According to an OurQuadCities.com story, the mission of the program is a combination of local and national efforts. If you buy any of the following products here's what happens.

One Step Products:
One Step Bottled Water - Having safe drinking water is currently a global crisis. Bottles of One Step water helps generate funds used to open water wells across the world in areas where water is at a major shortage and life threatening to villages in various parts of the world. To date, nearly 40 wells have been dug since the beginning of the One Step program.

One Step Cereals- For each box of cereal sold, money will be donated to help provide meals for those in need. Since the One Step program began, nearly 365,000 meals for those in need have been packaged in a partnership with Meals from the Heartland.

One Step Russet Potatoes (5 lb. bag) - Helps generate funds used to create community gardens, with nearly 750 gardens over the company's eight-state region since the One Step program began. The goal is to fun 10 large-scale community gardens each year around the Midwest.

One Step Paper Products and Seventh Generation Products - Helps generate funds used to plant trees in areas damaged by flood or fire, and in parks and neighborhoods around the Midwest. In a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, the two have helped plant more than 200,000 trees, with a goal of 100,000 trees planted each year.

I already buy many of the products I've mentioned above. I'm glad to know just buy purchasing items I already need, I'm helping others.
