The Iowa football team works hard every week to prepare for their opponent and you need to prepare for yours: road construction in Iowa City and Coralville on Iowa football game day!

70,000 plus Iowa fans will be enjoying a Hawkeye football game on 7 different Saturdays this 2018 Iowa Hawkeye football season and getting to and from the game will be a serious hassle.  Your usual I-80 exits that you are used to navigating to Iowa football games will have some construction to put a fumble into your game day plans.

Dubuque St (exit 246 on I-80) will be down to one lane before Iowa games and will temporarily have two lanes open after.  Getting to the games will take longer than expected. For more information go to City of Iowa City website.

Coralville (exit 242 on I-80) construction will be on 1st avenue from 6th Street to 9th Street.  This construction will create significant delays going to and from the Iowa football game. According to the website, the construction will take place until December 2018.  The 1st avenue improvements will include:

• Four through lanes and a continuous center turn lane
• 10 foot wide sidewalks on both sides of 1st Avenue
• Upgraded traffic signals at the E. 7th Street intersection
• New four-leg intersection with traffic signals at 6th Street, with the fourth leg providing a future connection to E. 2nd Avenue in the Iowa River Landing
• New public utilities (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main)
• New roadway lighting and streetscaping

We encourage Hawkeye fans to look for alternate routes to get to the game. Traveling from the east we suggest taking Highway 1 (exit 240) and Coral Ridge Avenue (exit 240) for fans traveling from the West. Iowa City/Coralville Construction Map

If you would like to not worry about any construction, you can always take the Hawkeye Express for $15.   The train will begin three hours prior to each game, regardless kick-off time. The train will start back up at the start of the fourth quarter and continues until 90 minutes after the game. Parking is free in surrounding lots and on James Street near the Depot.

Remember, we are all Hawkeyes and we are all trying to get to the game safe and return home safe.  Remain patient with other drivers, don't drink and drive and GO HAWKS!!!
