Cubs Take a Breath at All-Star Break

It's no secret that the Chicago Cubs are in need of the All-Star Week break. With the Cubs losing eight of their last 10, the wheels seemed like they were falling off.

Alas, the Cubs still hold a seven-game lead in the National League Central when play picks up Friday. When the Cubs do resume their season, they face a tough Texas Rangers team that has a 5 1/2 game lead in the American League West.

For now, Cubs fans can appreciate the fact that the entire starting infield will be featured because of the strong start that Chicago had. It may even seem like Petco Park in San Diego will be "Wrigley West" tonight.

All Cubs fans should be excited about what the Cubs have been doing so far. Stephen Colbert looks like he is.

All teams have its flaws, and all teams seem to have its slumps. The timing of this slump shouldn't be alarming. Last year's flaw came at the worst time in the NL Championship Series.

This year's slump — as long as it's not long-lasting — is normal. It's okay. Yes, it's frustrating. But, it's not in the playoffs.

Sure, the Cardinals and the Pirates are within a not-so-far distance from the Cubs and can make a run. But, a seven-game run?

The Cubs are fine. For now.
