Flood 2019-Here’s How You Can Help

If you want to help with flood efforts the first thing authorities want you to do is avoid flooded areas and obey detour signs.

After that, you can volunteer and donate items to those affected or displaced by the flood.

The Scott County Emergency Management Agency is looking for volunteers. Call 563-484-3086.  Skills will be matched with needed assistance.

The Salvation Army is accepting donations. Here’s what they are looking for:

• Water
• Non-perishable food / packaged snacks
• Gatorade / Powerade
• New blankets
• New pillows
• Towels / Wash cloths
• Comfort kit items: Shampoo, razor, toothpaste, toothbrush, bar soap, deodorant

Donations will be accepted starting at 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. Wednesday May 1 at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.  Items can be dropped off at the Belgian Boulevard entrance, Building #6/7.

The Quad Cities Community Foundation is currently accepting donations to support long-term needs in the Quad Cities community caused by the flooding in our region.

If you—or someone you know—is in need of assistance, the American Red Cross has opened shelters both in Iowa and Illinois.

  Please use the 8th Street & Iowa entrance.

• Illinois Location: 
  Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church / 1201 13th Street / Moline, IL
  Please use the back entrance.

Scott County residents can also receive case management assistance and, if income-eligible, disaster grant funding through Community Action of Eastern Iowa. Details are posted here.

People living in Illinois and directly affected by the flood can also call Project NOW Community Action Agency at (309) 793-6391 to seek the direct assistance they can provide.
