With the summer beginning to get into its full swing, the summer sports season in Iowa is starting to wind down.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released this week its softball pairings for the postseason that will begin a couple weeks.

Let's take a look at the local matchups and how the teams have been doing:

  • Class 5A-3: Davenport Central at Iowa City High, July 7 at Iowa City High
    •  Central has just one win on the season, and that came May 28 against Dubuque Wahlert.
    • Freshman Erin Puck has a team-high six RBIs.

  • Class 5A-4: Dubuque Senior/Clinton winner at Bettendorf, July 9 at 7 p.m.
    • Bettendorf gets a first-round bye, and is ranked at No. 10 by the IGHSAU in Class 5A.
    • DoniRae Mayhew has been having a lot of success this season for the Bulldogs. Offensively, Mayhew, a Bettendorf senior, leads the conference with eight home runs and 36 RBIs, which is also the third-most in Class 5A.
    • Mayhew also pitches for Bettendorf — she's thrown 82.2 innings, and owns a 12-2 record with a 1.45 ERA.

  • No. 5 Pleasant Valley at Muscatine, July 9 at 7 p.m.
    • Both teams have a player in the top-11 in Class 5A in RBIs. For PV, Hannah Mausser and Alexia Lara are 7th and 8th in 5A with 34 and 32 RBIs, respectively. Muskies junior Jessi Butler is 11th with 30 RBIs.
    • Spartans sophomore Ellie Spelhaug is 5-1 with a 1.17 ERA with 32 innings thrown.

  • 5A-5: Dubuque Hempstead at Davenport West, July 9 at 7 p.m.
    • West, ranked No. 13,Ass is 17-10 (as of this post) and won six straight games on the week of June 6. West is also riding a 6-game winning streak entering Friday's game against Dubuque Hempstead.
    • Rachel Stewart is third in the Mississippi Athletic Conference with 38 hits and as if June 21, Stewart is hitting .432. Freshman Erica Ralfs is 5-7 with a 1.69 ERA.

  • Class 4A-4:Central DeWitt at North Scott, July 7 at 7 p.m.
    • DeWitt freshman McKenzie Rosenboom is in the top-20 in Class 4A in RBIs (26). North Scott's leader in RBIs is eighth-grader Rachel Anderson with 17. Anderson is hitting .312.

  • 4A-4: Davenport North at Fort Madison, July 7 at 7 p.m.
    • Three different North players — Lynde Holdt, Morgan Smith and Emily Baezinger — have 10-plus RBIs.
    • Andrea Figg is North's top pitcher — 4-7, 2.84 ERA.

  • Class 3A-Region 4: Mediapolis at Davenport Assumption, July 6 at 7 p.m.
    • Assumption, ranked second in Class 3A, hasn't lost a game since June 11. Three different players — Hannah Kelley, Ashley Ackerman and Hannah Wislander — have 20 RBIs. Wislander is one of four Knights who has homered three times.
