One of the top free agents in the 2019 MLB off season has finally signed a deal.  And it's with the Chicago Cubs for 3 years and $43 million dollars.

Kimbrel, will earn $10 million this season and $16 million in 2020 and 2021.

With seven months off the expectation is that he will be ready to pitch on or before June 20 sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Cubs needed a quality arm in the bullpen.  So why did they wait till June 5th to make the move when they've known this for months.  Because now that the MLB draft is over, the Cubs will not owe a draft pick to the Boston Red Sox for signing the seven time All-Star.

Kimbrel, 31, has a career ERA of 1.91 and 333 saves.  He will instantly fill into the closer roll for the Cubs giving them an instant boost in the highly contested NL Central.  As of June 6th the Cubs are 1 game up on the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central lead, and have blown 11 saves in the season.
