It still bewilders me that we have to take our shoes off at the airport. Besides seeming relatively rare and futile, it's gross.

Nonetheless, airport security screening measures are about to undergo more changes at Quad City International Airport as implemented by the TSA.

According to a report in the Quad City Times, "travelers now are required to place all electronic devices larger than a cell phone in bins for x-ray screening at the security checkpoint. Electronics should be placed in a bin with nothing on top of or below them — similar to how laptops are screened."

TSA recommends travelers follow these tips:

  • Organize your carry-on bag so electronics larger than a cell phone can be quickly accessed at the security checkpoint.
  • Ensure the quart-size bag of liquids, gels and aerosols also can be accessed quickly and easily.
  • Do not overstuff the carry-on bag.
  • Consider checking bags when feasible.

Passengers who are TSA Pre✓ are not affected by the new security measures.

Recently, Quad City Airport officials warned travelers to show up to the terminal earlier to avoid missed flights due to TSA delays, especially during morning hours when multiple flights leave at, or near the same time.

The expanded procedures are sure to add additional delays to already busy screening times, so get there early.
