The River Bandits fell short in their attempt to repeat as Midwest League Champions when they lost 7-2 to the Peoria Chiefs at Modern Woodman Park last night. The River Bandits kept it a one run game until the Chiefs scored four in the sixth and two in the seventh while the Bandits bats were silent. Peoria now advances to the Western Division Championship Series.

The River Bandits finished up the season with a record of 81-59. Their home record was 40-30 and 41-29 on the road. They wrapped up the season with a three game sweep against the Chiefs at Modern Woodman Park. It would have been great if that momentum carried over to the playoffs. Three game series can be tough. There's not a lot of room for error.

The end of the River Bandits season brought to mind one of my favorite quotes from my favorite baseball movie "Bull Durham". Nuke LaLoosh is talking to a reporter after going to the show and he says "A good friend of mine used to say, this is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. Think about that for a while."

It's true. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. This week the River Bandits experienced it all.
