Episode 3, "The Battle of Winterflle, of Season 8 of Game of Thrones was the longest filmed battle scene in movie and television history.  Some would say it was the hardest to view, as well.  Not because of the violence or gore but because it was so dark.

Many very loyal Game of Thrones fans took to Twitter to react to the very dark battle scenes that happened during the 72 minute episode- the longest episode in GoT history.

Turns out that the cinematographer, Fabian Wagner, claims that it may be dark because of the viewer.  In an interview with Wired, Wagner said, “A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly,” he says. “A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway.”

He purposely made the episode dark, however. “The showrunners decided that this had to be a dark episode,” says Wagner. “We’d seen so many battle scenes over the years – to make it truly impactful and to care for the characters, you have to find a unique way of portraying the story.”

War, battles and death are all dark matters and sometimes so is the Game of Thrones content.  But with so many loyal fans who look for the very minor details in every GoT scene, you would d hope they would cater a little to the audience and not place blame on the viewer.
